Daintree Coast – Be Amazed

Alexandra Bay State School Wins The Ultimate LEGO Masters Prize – a Golden Brick!

From the Daintree to LEGO glory – one brick at a time.

Article written by Gemma Heggie, Digital Spice

Alexandra-Bay-Primary-School-LEGO-Model

In a heartwarming tale of creativity, community and connection, the students of Alexandra Bay State School in Diwan have earned an extraordinary reward: a gigantic 18kg Golden LEGO Brick from the original LEGO Masters series, shipped all the way from Istanbul, in recognition of their incredible LEGO model of their school.

It all started with a simple but bold wish. The students wrote to then-Federal MP Warren Entsch, handing him a LEGO wish-list filled with dream sets they hoped to build. But Warren, ever the champion of Far North Queensland’s kids, wanted to do more than just deliver bricks –

So, he reached out to the team behind LEGO Masters Australia, asking if they could help spark something special. The answer came from none other than Ryan “The Brickman” McNaught, LEGO Masters co-host and world-renowned LEGO builder, who didn’t just send a gift—he sent a challenge.

In a personalised video, The Brickman laid down the ultimate LEGO Masters task: create a detailed LEGO model of Alexandra Bay State School.

The students rose to the challenge like true pros. Their miniature school featured everything from classrooms and sports fields to a modestly-roofed toilet block, children playing sport, and even a visiting cassowary – complete with a cassowary poo! Their passion, creativity, and attention to detail were nothing short of incredible.

When it came time to reveal the results, The Brickman was blown away. In a second video, he delivered the verdict with trademark LEGO Masters flair:

“The good news for you is today is not an elimination, and even better news – you’ve won the Golden Brick! The school is amazing in LEGO form. It’s got storytelling, technical ability, and aesthetics – it has everything we’re looking for in a build from LEGO Masters. The downside is, which I haven’t told Hamish yet, we might be out of a job. You guys might be taking over!”

And so, from the hands of a LEGO legend and across the seas, the Golden Brick arrived – a colossal, 18-kilogram tribute to the spirit of creativity of the students and staff at Alexandra Bay.

Congratulations to the amazing students and staff of Alexandra Bay State School, and a huge thank you to Warren Entsch and his team, Ryan “The Brickman” McNaught, and the crew behind LEGO Masters Australia for making this fun-tastic moment possible.

In the words of The Brickman himself: “Good job, well done!”

Here’s to the students of Alexandra Bay — you really stacked up to the challenge. Keep building, keep dreaming, and always remember: the only limit is how far you’re willing to LEGO! 🧱💛
