Where did you previously live?
Inner west, Sydney.
What made you/your family move here?
We had a successful Sydney lifestyle from working in property investment and several developments. However we realised that these things do not bring you happiness or contentment.
We spent a lot of time traveling Australia with our 5 kids and started to desire to live on acreage off grid away from the city. There were so many beautiful and spectacular places in Australia that we travelled to but what really stood out to us and where we felt most at home was the Daintree Rainforest.
The Daintree offered us an opportunity to live in a beautiful rainforest environment off grid with our own water and much of our food sourced off the land.
What is the story behind Daintree Fan Palm Farm?
We love running our new business Daintree Fan Palm Farm – we love coffee and organic wholefoods so this is just an extension of us.
As part of our coffee and cafe journey before moving here – we bought an espresso bar in the CBD of Sydney and weren’t happy with the coffee brand the previous owner had been using, so we started looking for a different blend of coffee… Gina asked for the details of her favourite coffee at her local cafe – and this ended up being the former world barista champion! We arranged a meeting with him to discuss buying his coffee and he went on to give Peter intensive training on how to make excellent coffee.
In that part of Sydney there were about 15 cafes within a minutes walk from us and we were competing against some of the best boutique brands of coffee. We quickly got the reputation of having the best coffee in the area!
Peter loves making excellent coffee and was really looking forward to getting back into the industry.
Our Daintree Fan Palm store offers heaps of organic goodies and we’re always on the lookout for new products and introducing something new almost weekly!
In our wholefoods store you’ll find a range of fresh fruit and veggies (organic and spray free), frozen meals, healthy snacks, gluten free products and much more.
Relax in our covered outdoor area and enjoy a delicious organic coffee, lattes or chai. We also offer organic pies with vegan and gluten free options available.
Visitors to our farm can also enjoy our onsite rainforest boardwalk through to a spectacular gallery of giant fan palms (an entry fee applies which goes towards maintenance).
