It’s hard to pick a favourite beach on the Daintree Coast but Thornton Beach, about halfway between the Daintree Ferry and Cape Tribulation, would have to make it onto any shortlist.
Heading north, you’ll see a small cluster of houses on the left and Thornton Beach on the right, with clusters of picnic tables just behind the beachfront and a little further along, Thornton Beach Cafe located right on the beachfront.
Public toilets are located near Thornton Beach Cafe.
At the southern end of the beach is the mouth of Cooper Creek, where it empties into the sea. Standing on the Thornton Beach side, you can see Alexandra Bay beach, which is only accessible by boat, on the southern side.
The picturesque Struck Island sits just off the north end of Thornton Beach. The very north end of the beach is sometimes used for launching boats.
