What attracted you to the Daintree Coast?
Nature photographers paradise – we are both keen photographers and there are literally subjects everywhere you look.
The off grid low impact living lifestyle.
Spent 3 years months in Port Douglas and Cooya Beach – we loved the area but the lifestyle of Port Douglas was not for us.
The locals and their friendliness and willingness to help each other.
There is a great community spirit here.
Where did you previously live?
Brisbane and Northern Rivers NSW, and previously UK (Dave) and Glen Innes and Coffs Harbour (Connie).
What made you/your family move here?
We originally visited FNQ in 2012 and fell in love with the climate and area in general and could imagine ourselves moving here and living in retirement
The more we live here the more we like this community, the life style and the whole area.
What do you like to do with your time here?
We are active wildlife carers, in particular specialising in bats and small mammals.
We run a small Tree Planting/Revegetation organisation called Daintree Life.
We are avid photographers and regularly sell our work through international stock agencies.
Dave has written an electronic wildlife care manual which sells all over the world, and while doing extensive updates throughout the year can think of no better office than sitting on our veranda looking out at the forest that surrounds us.
Connie caretakes 2 local Air BnB’s
We both regularly travel throughout Australia presenting Wildlife Care training.
What changes have you seen whilst living here?
The closure of the local Cow Bay Pub (which is disappointing) as it was the local community hub and a great place to meet locals.
With every year that passes we are seeing an increase in forest cover, supporting a very rich and diverse ecosystem which no doubt benefits all of our amazing wildlife.
We seem to have noticed that many of the new residents moving in to the area are conservation minded “tree changers”.
What is something you wish you knew about before moving here?
Nothing comes to mind as we did a lot of research before moving.
