Centrally located on the Daintree Coast, Diwan is a beautiful place to base yourself and explore this amazing region.
Diwan begins just after the bridge at Hutchinson’s Creek and continues to the Cooper Creek Estuary, just before Thornton Beach.
Home to key Daintree Coast community facilities, including the lovely small Alexandra Bay State School, the Cow Bay (Daintree Coast) Medical Clinic which services residents and visitors to the region, a small rural fire brigade, SES and sporting club.
Highlights include an ice creamery, tea plantation, service station / general store, two campgrounds and several low key resorts, cafes / restaurants… all immersed in the beautiful Daintree Rainforest.

Diwan History
During the 20th century, much of what is now Diwan was logged and cleared for farming. You’ll be amazed at how well this area is regenerated, both from natural regeneration and from tree plantings by locals.
Alexandra Bay State School opened on 1 June 1986 and has since been a valued asset to the Daintree Coast community.
Diwan was named and bounded by the Minister for Natural Resources on 8th September 2000.
Diwan is an Aboriginal word meaning Scrub Turkey.

Getting here
Diwan is centrally located, approx. 25 minutes drive from the Daintree Ferry and a 25 minutes drive to/from Cape Tribulation.
If coming from Cairns or Port Douglas, take the Captain Cook Hwy/State Route 44 and enjoy the breathtaking coastal views along the way.
Continue on through Mossman and past Wonga, until you see the Cape Tribulation turnoff. Keep an out of the for the ‘Welcome to the Daintree – Kadayda Wawu Ngugi Bubu’ sign. Take a right turn at the sign and head towards the ferry crossing.
Catch the Daintree Ferry over the river.
Follow Cape Tribulation road for approx 25 minutes until you reach your destination of Diwan.
